LungMAP Anatomic Ontologies
Our high-resolution ontology describes the anatomical structures, tissues and cells of the developing human and mouse lower respiratory tracts, including the trachea, bronchi, bronchioles, and alveolar parenchyma of the lung, as well as the pulmonary and bronchial blood vessels and the autonomic nervous and immune systems of the lung.
This ontology is organized along the proximal-distal axis of the lower respiratory tract, encompassing prenatal and postnatal stages of human and mouse lung development
The ontology incorporates:
- well-characterized structural and functional anatomic components
- distinct histological tissue compartments
- generic and specific cell types defined at the molecular level
The ontology provides a coherent set of terms and definitions that is incorporated into an interactive, searchable, web-based atlas for the integration of anatomical, cellular, molecular and imaging data.
